Judy is a Cambridge-based painter and printmaker whose practice explores the relationship between the visible and the unseen, drawing on ancient Greek sculpture, the human figure and the enigmatic world of crows. Working across expressive figurative painting and fine art printmaking, she investigates identity, emotion, instinct and the complexities of the inner self through colour, texture, gesture and symbolism.
Her paintings explore the relationship between our outward appearance and inner experience, drawing on the enduring forms of ancient Greek sculpture to reinterpret the female figure through a bold contemporary visual language. Strength and vulnerability, presence and introspection coexist in works that consider the emotional and psychological forces shaping our understanding of ourselves and others.
Alongside her figurative work, Judy’s paintings and limited-edition etchings of crows reflect her fascination with their intelligence, adaptability and place within human mythology. Through these often misunderstood birds she explores instinct, patience, loyalty and transformation. Across both subjects, her practice looks beneath the surface, bringing together timeless references to mythology and sculpture with a contemporary approach to colour, form and expression.
Judy holds a First Class Honours degree in English from King’s College London and a Master’s degree in Fine Art Printmaking from Cambridge School of Art. She continues to develop her practice through sustained studio work and an ongoing exploration of the expressive possibilities of painting and printmaking.
Following a successful solo exhibition at A&D Gallery in London, Judy left her position at the Royal Academy of Arts to dedicate herself to her own painting and printmaking practice. Her work has been exhibited throughout the UK, including at the Royal Academy of Arts, Royal West of England Academy, A&D Gallery, The Fry Art Gallery, Baron Art Gallery, Oriel CriC and New Brewery Arts, as well as in the USA. Her work has featured on CD covers and in poetry books, and her limited-edition crow etching Night Flight was acquired by the late actor Sir John Hurt.
